I Didn’t Know The Future Was Here

I have an emergency-emergency fund.

Are you laughing? Cause everyone who has helped me with my finances has. It’s ok if you are, lol.

Everyone has asked me what is the reason behind having two emergency funds, and as an entrepreneur, it just helps my nervous system feel safer. That’s all. So no, I didn’t give one of the batches of money a new “assignment”. I left it there. For an emergency. For the future.

Everyone glamorizes being an entrepreneur and having a business. But I will tell you something, when you are self-funded you don’t have money to just fuck around and figure it out. Add a money scarcity mindset, and it doesn’t look cute in the backend. Income is super inconsistent and sometimes it just runs out - so having a backup plan with reserves, credit cards, and an emergency - emergency fund is important to me.

A lot of times in the coaching word, everything gets pinned on mindset. If you think it, and believe it, your business will be successful. Yes, your perspective absolutely has an influence on outcome because it can either help you, or block you from seeing opportunities and being creative. However, it is not all. What is happening in the world also impacts business. Job security at risk, cost of living going up, and new medications like GLP-1s being given at alarming rates, DEFINITELY has an impact on a wellness business. This is why you have seen EVERY wellness business jump on the GLP-1 bandwagon. Am I right?!

So, an my business income and reserves were dwindling, I knew that I would have to tap into my emergency-emergency fund. I had so much shame around this decision. I also had SO much appreciatation for my past self for putting this in place. She was SO smart. It made me sad to take money out of this fund on a monthly basis, although I didn’t have another plan for the money. It was just there…for the future!

I recently had a session with one of my healers and mentors and I was sharing with her my money worries…again! She said to me, “The future is here. Many years ago you started saving that money for your future self, and you are her. The future is here.”

Are you sitting there with your mouth hanging open? Mind-blown emoji in effect?!

Cause I sure was. I had not realized the future was here.

She also mentioned that I was afraid to use it because I have the belief that I cannot replenish it again. This is where mindset comes in, you see?!

She was right, my money scarcity, and trust in my future self sometimes is shaky. However in that moment, I was able to shift from shame and worry, to gratitude and acceptance. I was so thankful for my past self for having my back today.

Now, you might be wondering what in the world does this have to do with wellness? I will tell you it's everything!

  • Financial stability and security is ESSENTIAL for us to feel safe. We live in a capitalistic society and having money for our expenses, experiences, investments, joy…is critical.

  • We wait for the future. We keep pinning eating better and exercising on a future version of ourselves. We don’t realize that the future is here now. We need to take responsibility for that. The future has an unknown expiration date. So why not take action on what your past self decided…today!

  • The perceived fear of failing or not getting the results we want is real. This same exact thought is what was holding one of my clients back from exercising. It was why I had so much shame, and took money out of my account with fear. But what if we do find a way? What if we do get results? What if we do figure it out like we always have?

The future is here, friend. You owe it to yourself to take action on what you said you would do, and be grateful to your past self for planning ahead.

In the spirit of reciprocity, I would love to hear from you as well. What are you going to take action on now that the future is here?
